An Empirical Study of Runtime Files Attached to Crash Reports

When a software system crashes, users report the crash using crash report tracking tools. A crash report (CR) is then routed to software developers for review to fix the problem. A CR contain a wealth of information that allow developers to diagnose the root causes of problems and provides fixes. This is particularly important at Ericsson, one of the world’s largest Telecom company, in which this study was conducted. The handling of CRs at Ericsson goes through multiple lines of supports until a solution is provided. To make this possible, Ericsson software engineers and network operators rely on runtime data that is collected during the crash. This data is organized into files that are attached to the CRs. However, not all CRs contain this data in the first place. Software engineers and network operators often have to request additional files after the CR is created and sent to different Ericsson support lines, a problem that often delays the resolution process. In this thesis, we conduct an empirical study of the runtime files attached to Ericsson CRs. We focus on answering four research questions that revolved around the proportion of runtime files in a selected set of CRs, the relationship between the severity of CRs and the type of files they contain, the impact of different file types on the time to fix the CR, and the possibility to predict whether a CR should have runtime data attached to it at the CR submission time. Our ultimate goal is to understand how runtime data is used during the CR handling process at Ericsson and what recommendations we can make to improve this process

Background: AIDS is one of the most prevalent causes of death due to infectious origin which requires a lifelong therapy. There is variation in prices of antiretroviral drugs available in Indian market. Thus, a study was planned to find out variation in prices of antiretroviral drugs either as a single drug or in combination and to evaluate the difference in cost of various brands of the same antiretroviral drugs by calculating percentage variation in cost in Indian rupees. Methods: Cost of antiretroviral drugs manufactured by different pharmaceutical companies, in the same strength and dosage forms was obtained from “Current Index of Medical Specialties” July-October 2014 and “Indian Drug Review” Vol. XXI, Issue No. 4, 2014. The difference in the maximum and minimum price of the same drug manufactured by different pharmaceutical companies and percentage variation in cost was calculated. Results: Percentage variation in cost for antiretroviral drugs marketed in India was found to be zidovudine (100 mg) - 436%, lamivudine (100 mg) - 268%, tenofovir (300 mg) - 149.5%, didanosine (250 mg) - 73.75%, indinavir (400 mg) - 35.26%. Among the combination therapy, price variation was lamivudine + zidovudine (150 + 300 mg) - 314%, lamivudine + stavudine (150 + 40 mg) - 105%, lopinavir + ritonavir (133.3 + 33 mg) - 25%.Conclusion: There is wide variation in the prices of antiretroviral agents available in the market. Regulatory authorities, pharma companies, physicians should maximize their efforts to reduce the cost of drugs

Cure of human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome: promising future prospects at horizon

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a disease caused by humanimmunodeficiency virus and characterized by profound immunosuppression thatleads to opportunistic infections, secondary neoplasms, and neurologic complications.AIDS is among the leading causes of death worldwide. Current therapeutic optionsare directed only toward management of AIDS, but not toward its prevention or cure.In addition, it also possesses numerous problems like drug resistance, drug toxicity, drug interactions, non-adherence to therapy, life-long and expensive treatment, etc.Recent years in drug development have shown promising prospects for prevention/treatment/cure of AIDS like histone deacetylase inhibitors, Vpu ion channel inhibitors, viral decay acceleration, maturation inhibitors, tat antagonists, gene/stem cell therapy, and antiretroviral vaccines

Observation of Alfven wave in ICME-HSS interaction region

The Alfv\'en wave (AW) is the most common fluctuation present within the emitted solar wind from the Sun. Moreover, the interaction between interplanetary coronal mass ejection (ICME) and high-speed stream (HSS) has been observed on several occasions. However, can such interaction generate an AW? What will be the nature of AW in such a scenario remains an open question. To answer it, we have investigated an ICME-HSS interaction event observed on 21st October 1999 at 1 AU by Wind spacecraft. We have used the Wal\'en test to identify AW and estimated Elsasser variables to find the characteristics of the AWs. We explicitly find that ICME were dominant with Sunward AWs, whereas the trailing HSS has strong anti-Sunward AW. We suggest that the ICME-HSS interaction deforms the MC of the ICME, resulting in the AWs inside the MC. In addition, the existence of reconnection within the ICME early stage can also be the leading cause of the origin of AW within it
